YouTube Shorts for SaaS: strategy and linking to long-form

How SaaS teams use YouTube Shorts to feed tutorials and demos, what links are allowed, and a simple weekly plan for one channel.

Farmero team · checked

Short answer: for SaaS, YouTube Shorts work best as the front door to your long-form tutorials. Post short, searchable answers to specific questions, then use the Shorts "related video" link to send viewers to the full walkthrough on your channel. Shorts descriptions no longer carry clickable links, so the channel page and related videos do the linking.

Why YouTube is different for SaaS

YouTube is a search engine as well as a feed. People type "how to set up X" and get long videos and Shorts together. A SaaS company that already has tutorials, webinars or onboarding videos has a library that Shorts can point into. That is rarer on TikTok and Instagram, where there is less of a long-form home to send people to. See short-form video and SEO.

The rules that shape the strategy

Rule What it means Source (checked 17 Sept 2026)
Up to 3 minutes, square or vertical, counts as a Short Room for a real mini-tutorial YouTube Help
Clickable links removed from Shorts descriptions and comments from 31 August 2023 Do not rely on a URL under the Short Tubefilter

YouTube's help page says the related video feature needs advanced feature access and is added after you upload the Short.

Titling for search

Title Shorts the way people search: "How to export invoices to CSV in [Product]" beats "This changed everything". Put the task in the first words of the title and say it out loud in the first seconds, which helps both viewers and auto-captions.

One channel or several?

Most SaaS companies need one channel. A second channel makes sense when a separate audience would never watch the first, such as a developer channel next to an end-user channel. Running several channels from iPhones is covered in multiple YouTube Shorts channels.

If you prefer the API

The YouTube Data API can upload video, but check its limits first. As of 17 September 2026 the docs list videos.insert in its own bucket, with a default of 100 calls per day (quota costs), and videos from unverified API projects created after 28 July 2020 are restricted to private until the project passes an audit (videos.insert).

Posting Shorts from real iPhones with Farmero

Farmero posts YouTube Shorts through the YouTube app on iPhones you own, checks the channel for the new post before marking it posted, and can warm up a new channel at a human pace first. It does not add related-video links for you, so set those in YouTube afterwards. See posting.

FAQ

Can I put a signup link in a Short?

Not as a clickable link in the description or comments. Use your channel profile links and say the URL or search term in the video.

Should Shorts live on the same channel as tutorials?

Usually yes for SaaS, because the related video link only points to your own channel's content.

How long should a SaaS Short be?

As long as the answer needs, up to three minutes. Many single-question answers fit in under a minute.

Do Shorts help long-form views?

That is the intent of related video links. How much depends on the channel; measure clicks through to the linked video in YouTube Studio.
