How to create a YouTube Brand Account for an extra channel

Step by step, create a YouTube Brand Account channel, add owners and managers, switch between channels, and the 100-channel limit per Google Account.

Short answer: to create a YouTube Brand Account, sign in to YouTube on a computer or the mobile site, open your channel list, click Create a new channel, then pick a name, handle and profile picture and click Create channel. The channel sits under a Brand Account that you and others can manage from your own Google Accounts. One Google Account can manage up to 100 channels.

Why use a Brand Account

A personal channel is tied to one Google Account. A Brand Account channel can be "jointly managed" by several people through their own Google Accounts, with no shared username or password (Google Account Help, as of September 2026). That makes it the normal choice for:

  • a second or third channel for a different topic;
  • a business or client channel you might hand over later;
  • any channel more than one person will run.

Since August 4, 2021, newly created Brand Accounts are limited to YouTube (same page).

Step by step

From YouTube Help, as of September 2026:

  1. Sign in to YouTube on a computer or the mobile site.
  2. Go to your channel list.
  3. Click Create a new channel, or pick an existing Brand Account to add a channel to it.
  4. Choose a profile picture, a name and a handle.
  5. Click Create channel.

Then finish the basics in YouTube Studio: description, banner, links, and default upload settings.

Add at least one extra trusted owner so you are not locked out if your own Google Account has a problem.

Switching channels on a phone

In the YouTube app, tap your profile picture, then Accounts, and pick the channel. The YouTube Studio app works the same way (YouTube Help, as of September 2026). Only one channel is active at a time, so check which one you are in before you upload. More on this in several Shorts channels on one iPhone.

Before you create many channels

Posting Shorts to several channels with Farmero

Farmero switches between the channels signed in on each iPhone in the YouTube app, reads the channel on screen to confirm it is the right one, and checks that channel for the new Short before marking it posted. Drop a clip once, pick channels, and each becomes its own editable card. See Add accounts. Automating these apps may breach their terms, and nobody can promise an account will never be restricted.
