Short answer: Reels rewards the same demo-first videos as TikTok, but Instagram is stricter about originality: accounts that mainly post unoriginal content aren't shown in recommendations, and adding only a watermark or caption doesn't count as a meaningful edit. Re-cut each video for Reels, remove other apps' watermarks, and use your bio link for installs.
What's different on Reels
| Topic | Reels | What to do for an app |
|---|---|---|
| Originality | Accounts that mainly post unoriginal content aren't recommended | Post your own footage; re-edit, don't just repost |
| Watermarks | A watermark, border, subtitles or caption credit isn't enough to count as original | Export clean files without another app's watermark |
| Length | Up to three minutes | Keep demos short anyway; three minutes is a ceiling |
| AI labels | Meta shows "AI info" when it detects AI or you disclose it | Disclose realistic AI media |

Re-cutting a TikTok video for Reels
- Start from the project file, not the downloaded TikTok (which carries a watermark).
- Change the hook text so it isn't identical to the TikTok version.
- Check the safe zones. Captions and buttons cover the bottom and right edges; keep app UI visible above them.
- Rewrite the caption with keywords a person would search.
- Pick a cover frame that shows the app or the result.
Formats that suit Reels for apps
- Tutorials ("do X in 3 taps"). They get saved and shared.
- Before/after with a clear result.
- Aesthetic use for lifestyle apps: the app inside a calm routine.
- Carousels also work on Instagram, but they are photo posts, not Reels.
Format ideas are in UGC video formats for apps.
Links and attribution
Put a tracked link in the bio. On iOS, an App Store Connect campaign link with
its own ct= token for Instagram separates Reels installs from TikTok ones
once the numbers pass Apple's threshold. See
tracking installs from organic.
Captions and cover frames
Write Reels captions for people and for search: say what the app does in plain words in the first line, then add context. A cover frame that shows the result makes the grid readable when someone visits the profile. Keep a consistent look across covers so a visitor can tell what the account is about in a glance.
Account structure
Mirror your TikTok network only where you have content for it. One brand account plus one or two niche accounts is a common start. Warm new accounts first with ordinary viewing; see Instagram account warm-up. Automating these apps may breach their terms, and nobody can promise an account will never be restricted.
Posting Reels from real iPhones
Farmero posts Instagram Reels video through the real Instagram app on your own iPhones, reads the profile header first to check it is on the right account, and checks the profile for the new Reel before marking it posted. It does not post photo carousels to Instagram, and it warns if the same clip is going to Instagram twice. See posting and plans.
FAQ
Can I post my TikTok videos straight to Reels?
Post a clean re-edit instead. Instagram says a watermark or caption change alone doesn't make content original.
How long should an app Reel be?
Reels can run up to three minutes, but most app demos need far less. Test short cuts first.
Do Reels need an AI label?
Disclose realistic AI-generated media. Meta labels content it detects as AI or that people disclose.
Where should the install link go?
In the bio, with a tracked campaign link so you can separate Instagram from other sources.
