Short answer: Reels can sell the same kinds of products TikTok does, but Instagram leans harder on originality and on your profile as a storefront. Post your own product videos, give Reels their own cut rather than a TikTok repost with a watermark, and use Instagram's multiple bio links to point at the products you are testing.
What is different from TikTok
| TikTok | Instagram Reels | |
|---|---|---|
| Bio links | A website link, with eligibility rules | Up to 5 links (announced April 2023) |
| Reposted content | Not eligible for For You feed without new edits | Instagram recommends the original when it finds identical content |
| Profile | Video grid | Grid mixes Reels and photo posts; looks like a shop window |
| Audience | Discovery-heavy | Mix of followers and discovery |
Sources: Instagram's five-link bio was reported by TechCrunch, 18 April 2023; TikTok's feed rule is in its For You feed eligibility standards (checked 17 September 2026).
Originality on Instagram
In April 2024 Instagram said that when it finds two or more identical pieces of content it will recommend only the original, and that accounts that repeatedly post content they did not create or enhance will not be shown in recommendations (TechCrunch, 30 April 2024).
For dropshippers, that means:
- Shoot your own footage of the product; see UGC-style videos.
- Export a clean version without another app's watermark.
- If you post the same product on TikTok and Reels, you own both videos, but a different hook or cut for each audience is still worth testing.
Use the bio as a storefront
With up to five links, a product account can list the current test products
plus the store. Tag each link with its own utm_campaign so Shopify can
separate Instagram traffic from TikTok; see
tracking sales per account.
| Link slot | Target |
|---|---|
| 1 | Store home or main collection |
| 2–4 | Products being tested this week |
| 5 | Best seller |
A simple Reels routine
| Day | Post |
|---|---|
| Mon | Product demo Reel |
| Tue | Photo post: product close-ups |
| Wed | Problem/solution Reel |
| Thu | Rest or reply to comments |
| Fri | Before/after Reel |
This is an example cadence, not a requirement. Mixing photo posts with Reels keeps the grid looking like a shop window, and it gives you a cheap second format to test. Reply to comments that ask about price or shipping; those questions are purchase intent, and your answers are visible to the next viewer too. The cross-account version is in ecommerce posting schedule.
Posting Reels with Farmero
Farmero posts Reels to your own Instagram accounts from your own iPhones and confirms each one is live on the profile. On Instagram it handles Reels only, and it does not manage bio links. It can also warm an Instagram account with normal-paced scrolling first; see the Instagram warm-up guide. Automating these apps may breach their terms, and nobody can promise an account will never be restricted.
FAQ
Can I post the same product video on TikTok and Reels?
If you own it, yes, but export it without the TikTok watermark. Instagram recommends originals and down-ranks repeat reposters.
How many links can an Instagram bio have?
Up to five, per Instagram's April 2023 update as reported by TechCrunch.
Are Reels or TikTok better for dropshipping?
Test both with the same products and compare sales per account. Results depend on the niche.
How do I read a Reels product test?
The same way as on TikTok: saves, shares, comments asking where to buy, link clicks and orders, judged across several Reels rather than one. See views to sales metrics.
