Set up a phone

Connect an iPhone

Cable, trust, Developer Mode — and what to do when the phone does not appear.

Farmero drives phones over USB. Wireless is not supported: the cable is also how clips reach the phone, and it is the difference between 11 seconds and 25.

Plug it in

  1. Connect the iPhone with a data cable — many charge-only cables look identical and will never enumerate the device
  2. Unlock the phone and tap Trust when it asks about this computer
  3. The phone appears under Phones in Farmero

Turn on Developer Mode

iOS 17 and newer need this before any developer-signed app will run.

Settings → Privacy & Security → Developer Mode → on, then restart the phone and confirm after it boots.

Developer Mode only appears in Settings after a development app has been installed once, which is a genuine chicken-and-egg. If you cannot see the option, do the runner install first — it will appear afterwards.

When it does not show up

Nothing appears at all. Try another cable first; it is the cause more often than anything else. Then another port, avoiding hubs.

It appears and vanishes. The phone is locking. Set Auto-Lock to Never while you are setting it up.

Trust never prompts. Reset it: Settings → General → Transfer or Reset iPhone → Reset → Reset Location & Privacy, then replug.

Keep it plugged in

Phones run overnight. Leave them connected and charging — Farmero drives them continuously and a phone that drops off mid-run stops that account until it comes back.
